Ms. Benjamin concentrates her practice in civil rights litigation, with significant trial and motion practice experience in both State and Federal Courts. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Benjamin served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City Chicago, Department of Law, where she specialized in defending civil rights cases brought against the City of Chicago, Chicago Police Officers and other City employees. As a Senior Assistant Corporation Counsel, in addition to supervising other attorneys, Ms. Benjamin was also lead counsel on several high-exposure cases dealing with police shootings and reversed convictions. One of those cases, Wallace v. City, 03 C 2296, in which Ms. Benjamin successfully obtained summary judgment for her clients, was appealed to and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. Wallace v. Kato, 127 S.Ct. 1091.
